Dear Twitter-
I know I've given you hell over the years for being the least innovative mainstream social media company. I know I've made fun of you religiously because the most creative thing you've done in the last five years was changing the character limit from 140 characters to 280 characters. I know you get a really bad reputation for being the service that only a small percentage of young people actually want to use.
But wow. In a world where Facebook is self-imploding in its own metaverse and TikTok is still struggling to transition from a consumption company to a connection company and Snapchat is anxiously trying to navigate its way through Apple's new privacy restrictions, you've really kept chugging along. You're slow to innovate, but this might be a race where the tortoise wins. You've remained a great platform for open dialogue across all strata of our society, and at the end of the day, out of all these platforms, the most important conversations in the world take place on Twitter. Sure, you're overloaded with bots, and people can still be incredibly cruel, and Fleets was just never going to catch on. But by being slow to innovate, you've protected the integrity of your platform really well, and I applaud you for that.
If you still haven't found another winner by this time next decade, I'll be pretty skeptical. But for the time being, I'm ready to forgive you for most of my past judgement and just thank you for being the Mr. Reliable of the social media world.
Sincerely,
joe_andrews8
