I always find it funny that whenever I write a song, people who hear it automatically assume I am the main character and the setting is my personal life. It is extremely rare that I make the entire content of a song that accurate to my actual living situation, yet if people can find one singular detail that's moderately reminiscent of something in my life, they automatically assume the entire song must be autobiographical.
And this is made more annoying by the fact I don't think other types of artists have to deal with this as much. When a painter paints a face, we don't assume it's a self-portrait just because the nose has the same curvature. When an author writes a book, we enter into it with the mindset that the book is a world in itself, separate from reality. I don't think songwriters have that same luxury. It's just thought of as a more intimate medium, I guess.
