If I ever start my own company, the first person I'm hiring is a former boxing or UFC marketer. It's unbelievable how every 12 months, the people leading those sports are able to convince everyone in America that this upcoming fight between two only somewhat recognizable people is "the must-see event of the decade" and that we're missing a groundbreaking cultural moment if we don't watch. And it's not like they just target fighting fans; everyone and their mother knows about the event and for just a moment in time cares about the sport until the event is over, at which point it won't be thought about for another 12 months until two new guys get pulled out of the magician's hat and paid stupid amounts of money to do this all over again. It's so absurd that it's undeniably impressive.
