Speaking of: Cheap Flights

We as a country are finally starting to acknowledge that, news flash, taking care of your mental health is extremely important to a healthy society.

Here's an idea: why doesn't the government subsidize flight tickets to combat this? I can think of a full legion of people who would be much happier if they could just travel a little bit more. I'm sure I could back this into some argument about how traveling more makes you more productive in your job and that somehow pays for itself. I don't know. It'd be a massive stretch, but I've made sillier arguments.

If the government gave $200 in flight credit to every US citizen and half of Americans used the credit, it would cost just over $33 billion. Is this an efficient way to spend money? Absolutely not. Have I seen the government spend money on stupider things? Absolutely.

Thinking about it more thoroughly, I'd actually be pissed if this passed through Congress. Maybe it's smarter to structure this as a tax write-off. Maybe there's no avoiding the fact that this idea based on shakey-at-best premises would cost $33 billion. But it would still be sick, right?
