I spent a lot of time today trying to figure out why the cost of living in California is so high. Eventually, in the middle of my four-mile stroll along Limantour Beach, surrounded by sandy bluffs and jagged coastlines for miles each way, kissed by the crisp October ocean air, and dancing across rock formations like a toddler at recess, I gave up and stopped dwelling over the question.
