Speaking of: Elton John

It's unhealthy the number of times I've fallen in love with Elton John all over again.

I fully acknowledge that this statement sits right next to,"I just bought a Nissan Leaf," and "I practice basic hygiene," in the list of least manly things to say. But sometimes I go a few months without listening to him much and begin thinking, "Gosh, why was I so obsessed with his music in 8th grade and freshman year of high school?" And then I hear a song like "Border Song" or "Tonight" or "Harmony" or "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" and I remember: the dude writes flipping unbelievable tunes. None of the songs I just listed were really hits, but I can't listen to one of them without re-entering my middle school headspace, buying used CDs of his on eBay, blown away that someone could write so many genre-hopping songs that are both extremely instrumentally intricate and yet still purely pop.

If falling in love with Elton John on a monthly basis makes me unmanly then gosh I'll happily donate all of my man cards to whoever has a sad enough life to make fun of me for that.
