I'm at my most emotionally vulnerable at 4 am. Whenever I wake up at this time (which only really happens accidentally), I am conscious enough to have full thoughts but not conscious enough for the layer of my brain that can see the bright side in everything to kick in. Without being able to justify disappointments, everything becomes a crisis. Suddenly, I'm lonelier, guiltier, far less excited for the morning...
This continues, until I fall asleep, wake up hardly remembering what I was so worked up about earlier, and make a bowl of cereal.
