Speaking of: Juneteenth

What's the proper way to celebrate a day commemorating the end of unspeakable injustice? It's always worthwhile to recognize those who fought to end the injustice, but it sometimes feels odd celebrating the freedom gained on Juneteenth when "freedom gained" necessitates freedom was at some point taken, and that warrants reflection more than anything.

I'm pretty much just conflicted on what my role should be during this holiday. If Juneteenth's function is to give our country a chance to appreciate Black culture and examine how slavery's effects are still shaping America today, then I am happy to educate myself. Perhaps it makes sense for me to treat it like Small Business Saturday and support local Black businesses for the day. Perhaps I have no role at all. I just wish I had a better idea of how to approach a holiday celebrating the freedom a whole race of people gained from my ancestors.
