Speaking of: Political Party Common Goals

Living in America gets a lot less stressful once you realize that, in broad strokes and barring the extremes of both, Democrats and Republicans want the same things.

This isn't to say they even remotely agree in execution. But if each party were to write a one-sentence mission statement, I would bet they are almost identical, centered around ensuring prosperity for the country and make sure every citizen is safe and has access to opportunities to improve their life. The left will point at Republicans and say they only care if the top 1% achieves these goals, and the right will point at Democrats and say they only care that the federal government is the nucleus for all of these policies. But I think remembering that both parties are generally pointed in the same direction is crucial to being able to deconstruct the pros and cons of each party's platform later with as little bias as possible.
