I have always had an unproven but adamantly believed theory that Starbucks instructs their baristas to spell people's names egregiously wrong on their coffee cups in the hopes that those customers post the error on social media and give Starbucks a daily replenishment of free micro-ads for the company.
I really have no reason to believe this is true, and I really can't see any food service chain telling their employees to do this. But think about how much free press they are getting. it would be an absolutely brilliant plan, wouldn't it?
