Speaking of: The College Gender Gap

A lot has been written recently about how prominent the gender gap in college is getting, with women having outpaced men in receiving a college diploma for virtually the last 40 years. The percent of students enrolled in college that are women is now inching up on 60%, a shocking imbalance.

I've been wrestling with this in my head, trying to think of a logical way to explain this pattern that isn't just biological. But at the end of the day, biology is the best explanation I can think of.

  1. Women biologically mature faster than men.

  2. Those who are more mature are probably more inclined to go to college.

  3. Therefore, more women go to college.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but I don't think it's a crazy thought process. It's hard to argue the reason can be anything societal or cultural when the pattern has held true for 40 years.

Maybe there's just a disproportionate number of idiots that are men.
