I once heard in a Ted Talk that it takes the human brain five seconds to recognize a bad idea. The point was that if you ever need to do something that you really don't want to do such as get out of bed in the morning, you have to act on the impulse immediately.
I tend to interpret this rule slightly differently. After learning it, I began acting on all ideas within five seconds because, quite frankly, who doesn't love an amazingly bad idea? And sometimes, when you least expect it, they end up being good ideas. And other times, when you most expect it, they end up being REALLY bad ideas. But that's way more fun than just being pragmatic about everything, isn't it?
