Speaking of: The Next Long Blockchain Corp

OpenAI released ChatGPT in late November 2022, and from that day on, it has felt like every time I look at tech news, there is another company launching some new AI-powered software feature that provides a "revolutionary" user experience for its customers. And I'm sure some of those new features genuinely are really cool. But it's hard to feel that sense of awe when it's so clear we've stumbled onto the next Long Blockchain Corp.

It's a well-told tale at this point. Long Blockchain Corp, formerly Long Island Iced Tea Corp, is an iced tea and lemonade company that launched its first products in 2011. In December 2017, a time when bitcoin was hitting all-time highs every day and finance bros across the country were getting turned on by any girl who could explain how crypto mining worked, Long Island Ice Tea Corp had a brilliant idea: they would capitalize on all this hype by changing their name to Long Blockchain Corp. They would still sell iced tea and lemonade. They had absolutely no connection to bitcoin or crypto or the blockchain. But they decided to change their name to Long Blockchain Corp.

Within days of the name change, Long Blockchain Corp's stock shot up over 280%.

The words "crypto" and "blockchain" were such hot commodities that every company was looking for a way to claim they were getting in on the action, whether they were selling bitcoin or strawberry lemonades.

We've entered into a new era, and AI is the new blockchain. A lot of genuinely groundbreaking and really exciting innovation is happening in AI right now, but to find that innovation, we're going to have to sift through a dozen different calculator apps that claim to generate your answer "using OpenAI technology to intelligently break numbers down into their component parts and digest the operation prompted by the user to output a human-quality answer to any simple math equation."

In other words, we've entered into a period overflowing with utter AI marketing nonsense.
