STUDY ABROAD
I did not know true vulnerability until I found myself sleeping on an airport bench in Málaga, Spain at 3 am, nine hours away from giving a presentation at my internship in London to the entire company. When you spend a semester of college hopping around different European countries stopping only long enough to squeeze a class or two in during the week, you find yourself in some pretty crazy and ridiculous environments. But boy did I enjoy it.
TRAVEL MAP
I didn't go into the program with a plan to end up in 14 countries in four months, but when you have three-day weekends and $19 Ryanair flights at your disposal, it's easy to get bitten by the travel bug. Below is the map of all the places I explored throughout the semester.
THREE THINGS I DEFINITELY WAS NOT EXPECTING TO DO
1. Perform a play on the Globe Theatre stage.
2. Do a poetry reading at a Roman temple.
3. Sit front row at a Premier League soccer game.
"EVERY STREET" REFLECTION
When you go to 14 different countries in four months, you think a lot about what your role is as a tourist in all of these places. I had a pretty emotional experience on my fall break trip in Amsterdam, and I wrote a song titled "Every Street" about that experience and how it changed my relationship with tourism. The Notre Dame London Global Gateway reached out and asked me to write a reflection detailing what inspired the song, which you can view by clicking on the photo below.
I was also interviewed about this experience and the inspiration behind "Every Street" on Notre Dame's study abroad podcast "BeyoND Study Abroad." Listen to the episode below.
TRAVEL PHOTOS
The most important part, obviously. Click on the pictures for location details.
